The Username vs. Display Name Thing Actually Matters

Roblox gives every account two separate name fields. The display name is what shows up above your character — it can be changed, it doesn’t have to be unique, and two people on the platform can share the exact same one. The username is different: it’s set at signup, unique across the whole platform, and is what the search bar actually looks for.

When someone posts their “Roblox name” in a forum thread, ask which one they mean. If you search a display name and find nothing, that’s usually why.

How to Send a Friend Request

Go to roblox.com or open the app. Type the username into the search bar at the top, select their profile from the results, and hit Add Friend. They get a notification on their end. Once they accept, their name shows up in your friends list and you can see when they’re online and what game they’re in.

Joining a Game Together

If a friend is already in a game, a Join button appears on their profile page. You can also click their avatar directly from the friends panel on your home screen. Either way, it drops you into the same server — usually. Roblox splits popular games across many servers at once, so occasionally you’ll land in different instances. When that happens, look for a Follow or Rejoin option inside the game itself; most well-made titles include one.

Sharing Your Username Publicly

Posting your Roblox username in a public thread is completely normal — the account system is built around being findable. A few things are visible by default, though: your friends list, your avatar, and sometimes your game history. If you want tighter control, go to Settings, then Privacy, and adjust who can see your inventory, send you trade requests, or message you.

Games Worth Playing With a Small Group

Roblox has thousands of games, which can make choosing one feel impossible when you just want to play something with two or three people you just met. A few that work well for that:

• Blox Fruits — anime-inspired action RPG with a massive player base; teaming up speeds progression significantly
• Brookhaven RP — open sandbox, no objectives, low pressure; good for just messing around
• Natural Disaster Survival — short rounds, instant chaos, scales fine with a tiny group
• Jailbreak — cops vs. criminals format, one of the oldest and most polished games on the platform
• Murder Mystery 2 — social deduction, works great when nobody knows each other yet

All of these are free to play. Some sell Robux-based game passes for bonuses or cosmetics, but nothing stops you from playing without spending anything.
